Israel’s chief rabbis held an unprecedented meeting with the spiritual leaders of the fervently Orthodox Agudat Yisrael movement to discuss recent developments in the ongoing battle for religious pluralism. Ashkenazi Chief Rabbi Yisrael Meir Lau acknowledged that the rabbinic groups had never met before, but said they had often cooperated regarding the provision of religious services to Israelis.
