Israel’s export of citrus products this year will equal last year’s mark of eight million cases, it was indicated here today on the basis of reports sent back from Europe by a citrus marketing mission which is touring the Continent taking orders.
Britain which this year again will be Israel’s leading customer, will receive its first shipment of 40,000 cases of grapefruit and lemons any day now. The Soviet Union, which unilaterally breached an oil-for citrus contract last fall after the Sinal operation, has again indicated it will not purchase Israeli citrus fruit.
The fruit yield is expected to be somewhat lower in quantity this year, but higher in speciality. The result, it is anticipated, will mean as large a quantity of good quality fruit this season as last year.
