The Credentials Committee of the United Nations General Assembly today approved the formal credentials of the delegations to the current 30th session of the Assembly, including that of Israel. The only protest against Israel was a token one by Libya which expressed its “strongest reservation on the credentials of the Zionist delegation.”
Ambassador Tapley Bennett of the U.S. said the intervention by the Libyan representative showed a continued abuse of the Credentials Committee. The Libyan representative, he said, has made a political speech which should better have been presented on the floor of the General Assembly. “We would have a pretty small UN” if each member spoke of government it did not like, Bennett said.
