Israel’s defense minister called on the United States to “corner” Yasser Arafat and to open dialogue with other Palestinian leaders. Speaking at the Washington Institute for Near East Policy after a meeting with Vice President Dick Cheney on Wednesday, Benjamin Ben-Eliezer said the United States should put pressure on the Palestinian Authority president “in order to neutralize him.”
