Israel’s defense minister said the country made a “historic mistake” in settling Jews in the Gaza Strip. “The communities established inside the Gaza Strip were a historical mistake,” sources quoted Shaul Mofaz as telling Likud Party supporters Sunday. “They are not part of the State of Israel’s overall interests. The Gaza Strip is not the legacy of our forefathers. Whether or not there is a peace accord, the Gaza settlers will not be there in another five years.”
