The Economic Advisory Council, established by the government to help carry out Israel’s new economic policy, today held its first meeting. The Council consists of 34 members, including two Arabs, and represents all elements in the population.
Opening the meeting, Premier David Ben Gurion said that the Council’s task will be to clarify ways and means of the Jewish State achieving economic independence, especially by increasing its agricultural and industrial output, by importing less and exporting more as well as by increasing efficiency and rationalization of distribution. The Council is to discuss every economic problem without consideration of political aspects, the Premier declared.
