A distinguished audience, assembled in the Palais du Chai’l lot last night to mark the eleventh anniversary of Israel’s independence, heard Israel Ambassador Jacob Tzur pay tribute to France as the nation which helped Israel break out of the diplomatic isolation in which it found itself a few years ago.
The envoy, tracing the progress Israel had made since its establishment, warned of the great problems still facing the young state and declared that “our Bastille is still to be taken.” He said that superhuman efforts would be required to make Israel economically independent. He noted the constant threat of Arab attack and pointed out that Israel must make sure of room for every Jew who needed help.
