* Israel’s emergency services agency was formally admitted into the International Red Cross and Red Crescent movement. The induction followed a 237-54 vote, with 44 abstentions, by Red Cross member states and national emergency relief societies Thursday. The decision ends 58 years of exclusion of Magen David Adom. Arab and Muslim states for decades had blocked Israel from joining, saying that they wouldn’t accept its Star of David logo. A compromise on that issue was reached in December, when a neutral red crystal symbol was approved for Israel.
