Israel’s Finance Ministry is proposing substantial cuts to Ethiopian immigration next year. The cuts come as part of widespread belt-tightening following Israel’s war this summer in Lebanon. The plan, announced Tuesday as part of Israel’s proposed 2007 budget, would halve the number of immigrants brought to Israel each month from Ethiopia, to 150 from the current rate of 300.
