Israel’s first Independence Day was celebrated at a reception at the Israeli mission here and at banquets and meetings arranged by all Zionist parties, the DAIA, Kehilla Ashkenazi, Jewish National Fund and the WIZO. Most Jewish storekeepers closed their shops for the day while many private homes flew the Israeli flag. Parades celebrating the event were scheduled to take place tonight.
