The Foreign Ministry is reorganizing its internal structure by creation of a new division for Middle East affairs, to be headed by Mordechai Ganit, formerly of the Washington Embassy. Several ad hoc committees for urgent policy problems also are being set up.
The new division will coordinate and expand activities and research on Israel-Arab relations, as well as ties with other states in the region. The ad hoc committees will deal with Israel’s participation in the United Nations, and Israel’s international cultural and scientific relations.
The Ministry also announced creation of a new post, Deputy Director-General, to which Arthur Lourie will be appointed as second man in the Ministry. He will have four assistant directors-general.
