The cost-of-living index rose by only 0.6 percent in May, the Central Bureau of Statistics reported Monday. The Bank of Israel and the Finance Ministry expressed satisfaction with the small increase, attributed to a sharp seasonal decline in the price of fruits and vegetables.

Inflation since the beginning of the year has been at a rate of 7.5 percent, slightly higher than in 1986. It is currently running at an average rate of one percent a month.
