Israel’s sea-going passenger and cargo fleet will reach a total of about 600,000 tons by 1963, tripling its present tonnage, according to a report submitted today to the economic committee of the Knesset.
Most of the ships to be added to the Israel merchant fleet will be built in Germany under the reparations agreement. Orders for tonnage to the amount of $156 million have already been placed with West German shipyards.
