Israel’s Orthodox Chief Rabbinate Council opposes female soldiers serving in combat positions, saying it harms their femininity and distracts male soldiers. The Israeli daily Ma’ariv reported that the council warned in a letter to the Israel Defense Force’s chief of staff that if the situation is not amended, it could harm the recruitment of soldiers into the hesder program, which combines yeshiva study with army service.
