Plans for another attempt to cut down the number of parties in the forthcoming general elections were disclosed today by the Achdut Avodah party which will discuss this week a Mapam offer for a joint list in the elections.

The Achdut Avodah secretariat decided to convene the party’s central committee and council Wednesday to discuss the Mapam proposal in detail. The general elections are tentatively scheduled for August 15.

Other parties meanwhile established election headquarters with daily regional meetings of party leaders. The Herut called a national party convention for Passover week with indications that its main electoral offensive will be aimed against the projected new non-Socialist “Liberal Front” of the Progressive party and the General Zionists. The founding conclave of the Liberal Front also has been scheduled for next week.
