Israel’s population on the eve of Rosh Hashanah totals 6,145,000, according to the Central Bureau of Statistics. Of this total, 4,847,000 are Jews (79%), 922,000 Muslims (15%), with an additional 376,000 Druse, Christians and people with no religious affiliation (6%). Israel’s population increased by 147,000 during the past year — the same 2.4% increase as in the prior year. Immigration accounted for 35% of this growth, compared to 34% the year before.
