Sephardic Chief Rabbi Itzhak Nissim has received an invitation to attend the special 75th birthday celebration planned for Rabbi Yehuda Leib Levin of Moscow’s Central Synagogue on Feb. 23.
The Chief Rabbi’s Bureau said that Rabbi Nissim was investigating the possibility of accepting the invitation. A Bureau spokesman said that it was considering approaching the Embassy of Finland in Israel on the matter. Finland has represented Russian interests since the Kremlin broke relations with Israel during the 1967 Arab-Israel war. (See related story on Page 4.)
