The survival of Israel is the acid test of a free world, declared Sir Ellsworth Flavelle, national chairman of the Canada-Israel Association, who was the featured speaker at a public gathering here.
“The surest, shortest and soundest path to world peace lies in little Israel, Our whole concept to the approach to peace will change if Israel survives, as we hope and are certain that it will.”
Explaining the part played by non-Jews in the creation of the Jewish homeland in Palestine, he said: “Our basic interest and concern for Israel is the inherent love of justice. Particularly, we in Canada should feel very deeply in this subject, for we owe all we have and are to that same sense of justice and fair-play exhibited by others vastly more powerful than we.”
