Israel’s trade deficit increased by 73 percent in the first quarter — January-March – of 1987 compared with the corresponding period in 1986, according to figures released by the Central Bureau of Statistics Sunday.
Imports increased by 24.5 percent against an 11.5 percent increase of exports in the three month period. As a result, the average monthly trade deficit increased 14 percent compared to the last quarter – October- December 1986 – and 50 percent compared to the third quarter — July September 1986.
The figures do not include the West Bank and Gaza Strip.
