Israel’s two chief rabbis are slated to meet this week with members of the Orthodox political parties as part of an ongoing effort to dismantle the local religious councils. Sephardi Chief Rabbi Eliyahu Bakshi-Doron has long argued that the councils are inefficient in providing religious services and primarily serve as a source of politically motivated job appointments.
