Israel’s withdrawal from the Gaza Strip may not go ahead as planned, Shimon Peres warned. The Israeli vice prime minister told the Jerusalem Post on Monday that if the government goes ahead with a plan to demolish the evacuated Gaza settlements, it would hold up the summer withdrawal until the rubble can be cleared. Peres has argued for an orderly handover of abandoned properties to the Palestinian Authority.
