The Italian Cabinet has approved a proposal by the Union of Italian Jewish Communities dealing with declarations of death of children deported by the Nazis during the war.
At present a deported child is not presumed dead until nine years after the date on which he would have achieved his majority. The new bill, which goes to the Parliament for final approval, calls for the issuance of a declaration of presumed death three years after the date of deportation. The new bill will facilitate the clearing up of considerable litigation involving inheritance.
