A steel firm was ordered by a Florence court to include in the severance pay of a Jewish engineer the years during which the latter was forced out of his job by the fascist racial laws in effect during the Second World War.
The engineer Dr. Corrado Benadi, was unable to work for the firm from 1939 to 1944 because of the fascist racial laws. When he left the firm in 1959, Dr. Benadi filed suit for the five years’ severance pay when they were not included in the settlement with the company. In deciding on the case, the court ruled that private firms of public interest must also follow the rules on compensation for racial and political persecution established in 1944 for the State Administration.
