The possibility that the Italian Government may extend financial assistance to contemplated ORT programs in this country was reported here by Dr. Aron Syngalowski, executive committee chairman of the World ORT Union, addressing a conference of all Jewish organizations in Italy called to consider plans for the initiation of ORT projects in Rome, Venice, Leghorn and other cities.
At present, 1,162 Jewish youngsters in Italy are receiving ORT training. Plans discussed at the conference call for the launching of ORT programs primarily in behalf of “indigent Jewish children in the ghettos of Rome, Venice, Leghorn and other cities.” Jewish communities have expressed willingness to place their buildings and other facilities at the disposal of ORT.
