Italian Jewish leaders expressed concern after the country’s foreign minister said the community backs Israel indiscriminately. The European Jewish Press reported Thursday that Massimo D’Alema made the comments following an Israeli airstrike on Beit Hanoun last week that killed 19 Palestinians. D’Alema told Italian newspaper L’Unita that “the more democratic Jewish world” doesn’t adequately support “the most reasonable sectors of Israeli politics.”
