The Union of Italian Jewish Communities has prctested to the Ministry of Education against a decision of an official of a public high school in Salerno denying the right of Jewish students to stay home from school on Satur-days in observance of the Sabbath.
The Union appealed the case of 14-year-old Sarah Gottlieb. In its appeal, the Union pointed out that the Italian Constitution guarantees full religious rights to all minorities and that the Jewish religion imposes the observance of the Sabbath on all Jews.
