Italian newspapers commented angrily today on the anti-Italian incidents in Tunisia. Popolo di Roma asserted that the “Jewish rabble” has been against Italians in the French protectorate and that Italian anger was running high.

Several foreign Jews were held in jail for investigation in Milan after a round up in cafes and boarding houses. Most of those arrested were described as Polish Jews.

Fascist officials are imposing sanctions on Italians who show sympathy or pity for the Jews, it was learned. The Fascist Federal Secretary at Milan has reportedly expelled from the party a member named Paolo Locatelli on the grounds he was subject to “an incurable bourgeois spirit and indulged in immoderate demonstrations of pity for a Jew.”
