Sixty-three citizens and organizations of this city were presented with certificates of honor by the local Jewish community as a gesture of gratitude for their aid in saving many of Rome’s Jews from Nazi-Fascist persecution.
Mayor Umberto Tupini of Rome made the presentation address. Afterwards he passed out the honor certificates to people from all walks of life including professionals, members of various religious orders, nuns and priests. Rome’s Chief Rabbi Elio Toaff and Sergio Piperno, president of the United Italian Jewish Community also spoke.
