An agreement between Israel and Italy for the mutual return of property confiscated during the war will become effective Sunday, August 1, it was announced here after the signing of the pact by Israel Minister Eliahu Sasson and Dr. Scaduto Mendola, head of the Division of Economic Treaties of the Italian Foreign Ministry.
The Israel Government has agreed to release all property of Italian nationals which was seized by the Palestine Mandatory Government during World War II and which is still under the care of the Enemy Property Custodian. The value of this property, on which the Custodian will levy a two percent charge for administrative purposes, is estimated at over 1,000, 000,000 lire.
The Italian Government, for its part, will settle all claims of Israel citizens for belongings confiscated on Italian territory, including Trieste, during the late war.
