Italy’s leading neo-Nazi has been arrested in connection with violent incidents involving extreme right-wing militants at a soccer game last month in the northern city of Brescia.
Before, during and after the Nov. 20 match between Rome and Brescia, rival fans clashed in the stands and on the soccer field. A policeman was stabbed in the abdomen during one of the incidents. Maurizio Boccacci, 37, was arrested along with nine other right-wing extremists on charges of violence, resisting arrest and wounding the policeman. Boccacci, a self-proclaimed racist and anti-Semite, is regarded as the charismatic leader of Rome’s extreme right-wing youth. He headed a neo-Nazi style group called Political Movement that was banned last year, and his movements have been restricted by police.
