Italian Minister of Education Enrico Segni has informed the Union of Italian Jewish Communities that he has ordered a ban on future sale, of an elementary school textbook which contains a slander against the Jews.

The book accuses the Jews of the 15th century of performing ritual murders in the Trente. The Minister has also issued instructions to all teachers whose pupils now have the book to explain the error it contains.

The National Academy of the Lincei, Italy’s foremost academy of arts and sciences, has honored Senator Guido Castelnuovo, Italian Jewish scholar and mathematician, who has headed the Academy since the end of the war, when it was organized. Italian artists and scientists and representatives of foreign learned societies attended the ceremony.
