Italy Renges on Promise to Lend Paintings for Refugee Benefit Exhibit in London

The Italian Government has withdrawn a promise to lend a number of old masters to an art exhibit for the benefit of the Baldwin Refugee Fund, it was announced today by the fund committee. The exhibit is to be opened Wednesday by the Earl of Crawford. The Rome Government, it was stated, rejected offer of a deposit of foreign currency covering value of the pictures. Its attitude is understood to be strongly resented by King George Vl, who had been recently asked to lend pictures for exhibitions in Italy.
