Italian authorities, concerned over the success of the Allied armies in Sicily, have started registering all able-bodied Jews throughout the country for the purpose of sending them to the front for various kinds of defense work, it is reported in Popolo d’Italia reaching here today.

The leading Fascist paper states that both men and women will be used to construct fortifications at the front. Foreign Jews and Jews married to “Aryans” will also be conscripted. Only Jewish women “having special family ties will be exempted,” the paper says.

The address delivered yesterday in Rome by Carlo Scorza, secretary general of the Italian Fascist Party, in which he called on the Italian people to defend Italy against “the Anglo-Saxons, who are governed by Judaism,” was rebroadcast today over the Rome radio several times. The Rome radio also quoted articles from the Italian press emphasizing Scorza’s view that “this is a war of races in which the Anglo-Americans are nothing but the vanguard of those formidable waves of inferior races that are moving up for the assault on the spiritual, moral and physical integrity of races of superior civilization.”
