“The winning of the unaffiliated is one of the foremost problems confronting American Jewry today, ” Dr. Maurice N. Eisendrath, directer of the Union of American Hebrew Congregations, declared today, in his semi-annual report to the executive board of the parent organization of more than 300 Reform congregations throughout the country, meeting at the Netherland Plaza Hotel.
Pointing to the “disappointment and bitter disillusionment prevalent both here and abroad, particularly since the appearance of the atomic bomb, which has shattered much of our complaconcy, ” Dr. Eisendrath said that “in such a day, there is but are refuge and one dynamic that can save us- the refuge of the synagogue, the dynamic of our Jewish faith.”
As part of the 70th anniversary celebration of the Hebrew Union College, which is affiliated with UAHC, Henry Morgenthau Jr., Rabbi Stephen S. Wise, and many other Jewish and non-Jewish leaders addressed a dinner last night, after honorary degrees had been conferred upon them at ceremonies in the Plum Street Temple here, where the first classes of the college were held.
