Izler Solomon, American Jewish conductor who for two seasons directed the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, was today presented with the Columbia University Music Award for 1950. The $1,000 award is given annually to the person who contributed most during the year to the furtherance of music written by American composers.
Mr. Solomon, who was born in the United States in 1910, last spring received the Award of Merit given by the American Composers and Conductors’ Association for promoting and interpreting American music. He has been the guest conductor for symphony orchestras in numerous American cities.
