?j.a. Delegation Returns to N.y.; Stresses Importance of Campaign to Aid Israel

Twenty-nine members of the 43-man United Jewish Appeal delegation which toured Israel and European displaced persona centers during the past three weeks returned hare today by air on a direct flight from Israel. Julian ##. Venezky, delegation spokesman, told newsmen at LaGrardia airport that the people ##f Israel “count heavily” on the support of the American Jewish community in their of efforts to absorb “tens and hundreds of thousands of newcomers,”

Emphasizing the vital role which the U.J.A. must play in aiding the Jewish State to bring in and integrate into the life of the community vast numbers of immigrants, Venezky stated: “Israel must be seen to be believed. Even to us who have just been there, it seems incredible that this small country–not yet free of the threat of war–can undertake the gigantic task of receiving vast numbers of immigrants.

“Only when you talk to the people of Israel can you appreciate the heroism and the determination which have made the Jewish state a reality, and which will help Israel absorb more than 250,000 immigrants this year. We have returned to America with a new inspiration and a new enthusiasm. We have seen how the funds raised through the United Jewish Appeal $250,000,000 campaign are building new lives for tens and hundreds of thousands.

“We visited French and Italian transient camps, supported by the Joint Distribution Committee, a constituent agency of the U.J.A. There we found one word on everyone’s lips–Israel,” Venezky added. The delegation will proceed this week to Washington to participate in the March 19-20 U.J.A. national conference.
