The philanthropic endeavors of New York Jewry were praised by Mayor Walker Tuesday night in an address at the dinner of the Home of the Daughters of Jacob held at the Hotel Astor. The occasion was the thirty-second anniversary of the founding of the organization, which was celebrated by one thousand men and women who paid $100 a plate at the banquet, the funds realized being applied to the $300,000 maintenance fund which the institution requires annually for its support. Philip Weinstein, chairman of the Committee in charge of the arrangements for the dinner, was toastmaster.
Mrs. Peter J. Schweitzer, president of the institution, spoke of the part played by women in the development of philanthropy-Col. Herbert H. Lehman, Lieutenant-Governor-elect of New York State, Rabbi M. Z. Margolis, Albert Goldman, Commissioner of Plants and Structures, Mrs. Rebekah Kohut, Judge Otto A. Rosalsky, Sheriff Charles Culken, and Aaron Sapiro, also addressed the gathering.
