The United Campaign for the various charitable needs of the city has only reached the $540,000 mark and this is the sixth week of the drive. The quota is $900,000. Those who are heading the effort to raise the needed sums for the welfare institutions in the city are disturbed that the united attempt to get the required sums have not been fruitful.
A Junior Community Chest has been organized and this committee hopes to raise $25,000. This, however, will not solve the problem. The workers who have campaigned for several weeks are determined that the campaign shall go over the top. They will continue their efforts. The present financial slump prevalent, particularly in New England in some of the trades, is one of the reasons given for the failure to secure the necessary sums for the local chest.
