Rehabilitation activities in Israel of the Joint Distribution Committee were discussed here this weekend at a two-day conference of Malben, the JDC’s social welfare agency here. The conference, which was attended by Malben director Louis Horowitz and Charles Jordan, overseas director of the JDC, heard reports on various welfare problems confronting Israel.
Dr. Yosef Burg, Minister of Social Welfare, declared, in an address at the conference, that the overlapping of social welfare services in Israel, “though highly regrettable,” was “one of the prices we pay for the fact that we are living in a dynamic society.” Those immigrants who arrived here soon after statehood and were not properly integrated, he added, “were mainly hard-core cases and aged.” Dr. Burg said his Ministry cooperates fully with Malben to aid these groups.
