THE JOINT DISTRIBUTION COMMITTEE ANNOUNCED TODAY ALLOCATIONS TOTALING $2,730,275 AS OF OCT. 31, 1937, FOR VARIOUS PROGRAMS OF AID TO JEWS THIS YEAR IN CENTRAL AND EASTERN EUROPEAN COUNTRIES AND OTHER LANDS.
THE LARGEST ITEMS ARE $1,147,275 FOR THE PROGRAM OF AID IN EASTERN, $804,500 IN EUROPEAN REFUGEE COUNTRIES AND TO REFUGEE SERVICE ORGANIZATIONS, AND $608,500 FOR THE PROGRAM OF AID IN GERMANY.
IN ADDITION, $1,000,000 FROM OLD FUNDS OF THE COMMITTEE IS INVESTED IN POLAND FOR FREE LOAN SOCIETIES AND THE JOINT RECONSTRUCTION FOUNDATION, A J.D.C. AFFILIATE, IS UTILIZING APPROXIMATELY $2,500,000 FOR REVOLVING SHORT TERM AND LONG TERM CREDITS AND REDISCOUNTS IN POLAND AND OTHER COUNTRIES OF EASTERN EUROPE.
“MOREOVER,” SAID A STATEMENT BY JOSEPH C. HYMAN, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF THE J.D.C., “IN ADDITION TO THE REGULAR APPROPRIATIONS LISTED ABOVE, THE JOINT DISTRIBUTION COMMITTEE HAS BEEN OBLIGED TO MAKE INROADS INTO ITS 1938 BUDGET TO MEET EMERGENCY REQUIREMENTS THIS YEAR TOTALING $100,000, OF WHICH $50,000 WENT FOR IMMEDIATE AID TO THE POGROMIZED DISTRICTS IN POLAND AND $50,000 MORE FOR ADDITIONAL GRANTS TO REFUGEE SERVICE ORGANIZATIONS.”
