The decision of the HIAS and Joint Distribution Committee to help the immigration to Brazil of Jews who left Israel and then entered Germany without official permission was adopted with the approval of the Israel Government and the Jewish Agency, Julius Lomnitz, Latin American director of the JDC, told a press conference here today.

Mr. Lomnitz declared that the Israel Government and the Agency realized that these Jews could no longer remain in Germany, where they are treated as illegal immigrants. He noted that the JDC had stepped into the situation only because of its emergency character, since it normally does not handle matters of this type. He revealed that there are now some 600 of these immigrants in Brazil, the only country other than Israel to accept them.
