DIRECT CONTRIBUTIONS AND INVESTMENTS BY THE JOINT DISTRIBUTION COMMITTEE IN PALESTINE TOTAL $9,736,240 AS OF DEC. 31, 1936, IT WAS STATED TODAY BY JOSEPH C. HYMAN, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF THE J.D.C. A JERUSALEM DISPATCH IN YESTERDAY’S JTA NEWS REPORTING AMERICAN INVESTMENTS IN PALESTINE SAID THE J.D.C. HAD CONTRIBUTED OVER $2,000,000.
THE RECORDS OF THE J.D.C. DISCLOSE, SAID MR. HYMAN IN CORRECTING THE DISCREPANCY, THAT FROM 1914 TO 1936 $1,800,000 WAS INVESTED IN THE PALESTINE ECONOMIC CORPORATION BY THE J.D.C., WHICH IS INCLUDED IN THE TOTAL GIVEN ABOVE. THIS IS EXCLUSIVE OF SUBSTANTIAL SUMS EXPENDED BY THE J.D.C. IN CONNECTION WITH ITS PROGRAM OF ASSISTANCE TO THE JEWS IN GERMANY, AS PART OF WHICH THE J.D.C. MADE CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE PALESTINE AMT TOWARD TRANSPORTATION OF JEWS FROM GERMANY, TO THE HICEM (HIAS-ICA EMIGRATION ASSOCIATION), IN PART FOR THE SAME PURPOSES, AND HELPED SUBSIDIZE HACHSHARAH AND HECHALUTZ WORK BY WAY OF PREPARING EMIGRANTS FROM GERMANY TO ENTER PALESTINE. IN ADDITION, THE J.D.C. HAS SPENT SMALL SUMS IN EASTERN EUROPE FOR HACHSHARAH, HECHALUTZ AND SIMILAR TRAINING PURPOSES AS PART OF ITS NORMAL TRADE SCHOOL AND TRAINING PROGRAM.
