An emergency appropriation of $50,000 has been made by the Joint Distribution Committee to meet situations such as created by the recent rioting in Brzesc and other towns in Poland, it was announced today by Alexander Kahn, chairman of the Committee on Poland of the J.D.C.
This sum is in addition to the regular appropriations made by the J.D.C. for relief and rehabilitation work in Poland. Of the $50,000 allotted $20,000 will be used immediately for emergency relief measures in Brzesc.
The appropriation was made on the recommendation of J.D.C. representatives who have gone to the scene of the rioting.
“The Joint Distribution Committee contribution will be supplemented by collections in the Jewish communities in Warsaw and other Polish cities; these funds will be used to provide immediate relief and later for constructive efforts of rehabilitating the large Jewish population of Brzesc,” Mr. Kahn said.
