J.d.c Helped 5,500 Jews Emigrate from Europe in Three Months; 80,000 on Lists

Some 5,500 Jews have been assisted by the Joint attribution Committee’s immigration department in leaving Europe during the first three months of 1948, Herbert Katzky, acting director of the department, reported today, at the conference of the J.D.C. directors now being held here.

He added that there are 80,000 persons on the J.D.C. emigration lists in Europe. The emigration program is still being hampered by a lack of transportation agilities and the J.D.C. is using rail, ocean and air transportation in an attempt to ##ep emigrants moving, he said.

At a press conference here Rabbi Jonah B. Wise, national chairman of the ##ited Jewish Appeal, reviewed the activities of the J.D.C. and the United Palestine appeal in recent years. He also issued a special appeal to the Jews of America to redouble their efforts in behalf of the U.J.A. because every penny they send is needed.
