It was ascertained today that the offices of the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee in Warsaw functioned until the German occupation, when the organization’s operations were declared illegal. Isaac Giterman, director of the office, left Warsaw on Sept. 7 to prepare for the evacuation of the headquarters to Lublin and was isolated by the German advance. Mr. Guzik and I. Neustadt, J.D.C. representatives, remained working in Warsaw, but Neustadt was injured in a bombardment and is now in a hospital.
(The correspondent of the Jewish Daily Forward in Kaunas, M. Orzech, reported that the J.D.C. office in Warsaw had been closed and its funds confiscated.)
