Organization of local drives in connection with the national appeal of the Joint Distribution Committee is proceeding rapidly in many communities throughout the country, Dr. Jonah B. Wise reports, and a sympathetic interest is being manifested in the plight of Eastern European Jews as well as a willingness to aid in providing emergency relief measures necessary at this time.
“While the response to the appeal has thus far been most satisfactory,” Dr. Wise declared, “I must urge the necessity of immediate action in making funds available. The situation of millions of our brethren overseas is critical. Any delay or withholding of relief at this time cannot but react dangerously. It is imperative that we rush them the relatively modest amount necessary to support continued child feeding and to keep their own relief agencies from collapse.”
