Food and supplies are being rushed by the Joint Distribution Committee’s representative in the Middle East to the Turkish Black Sea port of Igneada where the Turkish motor ship Bulbul this week disembarked about 500 Jewish refugees, it was announced here today.
This action followed the submarine shelling seven miles off the Turko-Bulgar border of the Turkish rescue ship Mafkure which was sunk on Monday. About 250 Jewish refugees from Hungary, Rumania and Poland lost their lives. The few survivors, mainly members of the Mafkure’s drew, were taken aboard the Bulbul, according to word received today by the J.D.C. from its European chairman, Dr. Joseph Schwartz.
