The Joint Distribution Committee spends a total of $1,000,000 annually on aid to yeshivot in Israel, it was reported here today by Rabbi Leo Jung, chairman of the JDC Religious and Cultural Committee.
Nearly 12,600 students at 104 of Israel’s yeshivot are the beneficiaries of JDC aid, Rabbi Jung told a press conference. The JDC, in cooperation with ORT, helped to provide vocational training to hundreds of yeshiva students, especially in the fields of metalworking, printing, electromechanical and aeromechanics industries, as well as various religious professional fields including training as shochet and mohel.
