The Joint Distribution Committee has spent nearly $500,000,000 on its world-wide relief and reconstruction programs since 1914, when the organization was founded, it was reported here today.
The report was issued in connection with the 38th annual meeting of the J.D.C. which will be held this Saturday at the Hotel Astor here. More than 500 delegates from Jewish communities throughout the country are expected to attend the meeting at which Senator Herbert H. Lehman will be one of the principal speakers.
Highlighting the conference will be first-hand reports on the present situation of distressed Jews in Europe and Moslem lands and on aid now being provided by J.D.C. for “hard core” cases in Israel. A major report on J.D.C. activities during 1952 will be made by Moses A. Leavitt, J.D.C. executive vice-chairman, who was chief spokesman for the Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany in the recent negotiations with representatives of the West German Government on reparations claims.
