A plan for the Jewish National Fund to launch campaign for individuals to buy insurance policies naming the organization as beneficiary was presented here today in connection with the extraordinary conference of the J.N.F. which will continue through Sunday at the Waldorf-Astoria. The proceeds from these policies would be used to set up a reserve fund for land redemption purposes.
At a preliminary meeting today, delegates to the conference considered a program for large-scale land acquisition in Israel. The program, which has been worked out by the financial experts of the Jewish National Fund, provides for housing for the incoming immigrants and for the expansion of the agricultural economy and reclamation of waste lands. One of its features is the settling on farms of large numbers of Israeli soldiers who have expressed a desire for farm life. Dr. Joseph Weiss, financial expert of the J.N.F., was the principal speaker.
Judge Morris Rothenberg today released a cable to the Conference from Brigadier Yacov Dori, commander of the Israeli Army, in which he expressed the hope that “now the swords would be turned into ploughshares.”
